Oh my. I am an architect rather than a fine artist but ave always been partial to the precision of the hard leads. So “daggers” is an awesome description. I worked on strathmore with 9h for a long time, as much embossing as drawing. It took hours and hours for me to work up to 2h then finally to HB , and then only a few of those. The large format negatives and reprints gave it a ghostly quality, especially the 3d representations. I miss drawing that way!
Hey Clark, it sounds like you’ve had quite the experience working with graphite! Sounds super cool. Thanks for sharing all of this and for your kind words. I appreciate it!
Trees and portraits. wow. I love people and nature and to sit, meditate, look and feel the details and beauty. dang. You capture it wonderfully. Also. Really glad you frolick. not enough people frolick. More people would benefit from doing so.
another lovely piece (the cowboy reminds me of Bass Reeves quite a bit!)
i also read the article, and thank you for sharing your journey. it's similar to what i used to dream of, but i went the path of "safety" so to speak. i thought i was ensuring my happiness, but all i did was go where i didn't want to go, be unhappy with what i was doing, and end up back where it all began haha. but i'm not disheartened--that's how it goes and i believe there was a reason for it--a wisdom to both our paths.
thanks again and i'll be following your work and working on my own :)
Thanks so much for taking the time to read that article. That means a lot. I love your optimism around where you are in your life and understanding that it all happened for a reason. I hope you keep your dream alive and find a way to make it a reality! Keep at it. Wishing you the best.

I learned the bulk of what I know from my highschool art teacher. But I never attended university or have had any other formal schooling .
